Coconut oil beyond the beach — a beauty basic

May 21, 2016

With summer vastly approaching, a new trend is emerging. Everyone is going natural. And we’re all looking for new and organic ingredients to use to help us achieve that perfect, organic summer glow.

Recently, I went on a mini vacation to Captiva Island and used coconut oil instead of tanning oil. Warning: it does coconut oilnot provide any kind of SPF protection at all and I had to learn that the hard way. But, I was left stuck with this big $12 bucket of coconut oil and no idea what to do with it so I looked up solutions on the trusty internet.

Let’s just say, coconut oil is my new holy grail.

For one thing, coconut oil is a huge beauty essential. It takes the place of so many products, literally saving you tons of money. Not to mention, it’s a completely natural product, which also means you’re taking good care of your skin. Coconut oil can replace your daily moisturizer and makeup remover with something more natural and healthier for your skin. Like wipes, for instance. As much as I love ’em, they’re unbelievably harsh on your skin, especially on your pores and especially for girls who have sensitive skin, like myself. And although I belong in the category of ladies with oily skin, and I’m not exactly sure if putting more oil on it would solve any of my skin issues, I don’t let that stop me. You can use coconut oil for tons of other things like lip balm, deodorant and shaving cream.coconut oil inside

Coconut oil is also a really good natural essential for your hair. It basically works as every hair product in one by protecting it from any heat and taming frizz. You can also use it by itself or with other ingredients like honey and olive oil to create hair masks that can lengthen, hydrate and add shine to your hair. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll end up with beautiful and natural results anyway, just in time to show off your beachy waves on the shores of la playa.

I know, I know. You’re probably thinking, “It does all of that for your hair and your skin? Amazing!” but I’m not even done yet. Not only does it take care of your heads and shoulders, it’s good for your elbows, knees and toes too. Coconut oil serves a million purposes to benefit your health. You can use it for lice treatment, sores and on wounds like Neosporin.

And just when you thought there couldn’t be anything else that this miracle of nature can do, I tell you that you can also eat it. That’s right. Take a spoon at it. In fact, it’s extremely good for your body and you can easily add it to a morning smoothie or protein shake.

Whatever you decide to do with your coconut oil, it’s a really good alternative for dozens of products you probably already have and spend tons of money on all the time. Plus, coconut oil is an ingredient in a lot of beauty and hair DIYs that are plenty fun to make and use.
